My Book for Youth on Women, Peace and Security

A new generation brings with them new hopes and new ideals. What better way to explain the recent election in Canada than the increase in young people’s investment in the outcome? You volunteered, campaigned, and voted, and showed that you are not apathetic or disengaged. When young people are excited, they get things done. And how do they get excited? By first learning about the issues.

Canada’s youth are a perfect example of what young, energetic, and smart people are capable of doing. In my many years of working on issues to reduce conflict and strengthen peace processes, I have learnt that it is so important for young people to be aware of the issues. When you are aware and informed, you act. Again, this is why you turned out in our recent election in such amazing numbers. You found the information, and with that, you acted.

Because knowledge is power that leads to action, I am going to release a youth book on women, peace and security so that you can learn more about the peace process in post-conflict countries. Conflict is far too common around our world, and one of the ways we can all challenge it is by getting informed and then deciding how we are going to act to stop it.

My eBook will teach you about conflict resolution. Just like information that taught you why it was so important to vote, this book will explain to you why it is important to put pressure on international bodies to include women in peace processes. You are more connected to these issues than you may realize, and I want to help you make those connections.

Learning about why women must be involved in conflict resolution around the world is so important because no peace can last if women are not included. Violence affects us all, whether it happens in our country or abroad. We have family members abroad, we have our troops fighting for our safety, and we have children and families trying to survive that we need to keep in our minds and in our hearts. This begins by learning about peace processes and why women should be involved.

You are capable of doing so much with information in your hands. I encourage you to visit my website and check in to see when my youth book on women, peace and security will be uploaded. I am certain that if you do, amazing actions will follow, and we will be closer to creating more sustainable peace.

Please share your thoughts with me on what you think we can do to improve female representation at peace talks.
