Who The Afro News Is
Since its inception from the early 1980s the single page, double sided newsletter that became The Afro News first volume Newspaper in January 1984 as a local community news source in Western Canada, “The Afro News” has expanded and now reaches a global audience with diverse cultural, economic, educational and sports and lifestyle interests.
TAN Re-branded In 2006
Re-branded in 2006 as “TAN” Global Networks, the publication connects a readership that spans 54 African countries, more than 35 Caribbean countries as well as Afro centric communities worldwide.
Based in Vancouver, BC, TAN’s print version is distributed in the Lower Mainland at community libraries and business outlets and by mail to a loyal international subscriber list. It is the only press on Canada’s west coast that, to date, operates without any government, private or corporate funding outside of its active advertisers.
TAN’s dedication to positive integration and productive contribution to Canada’s multi-ethnic community has been cited in honours from the YMCA, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal and the 2011 British Columbia Nesika Business Award for service in the diversity of ethnic media.
TAN Under Privilege Group Holdings
Honore Gbedze, CEO and President of Privilege Group Holdings, is the paper’s current publisher. His dynamic vision for TAN’s support of the evolution of Africa’s potential as it steps more surely each year onto the world stage and that of African constituents worldwide is reflected in his own story:
“As a young immigrant in the new millennium, I acquired the publication rights and management of The Afro News press. My vision was to continue its service to the community. I also saw the growth opportunity that could bring together the drivers of our progress – people in business, community and cultural development, educators and our youth – to publicize their accomplishments in advancing opportunities for all. To support and promote this fast paced progress requires us to connect at the speed of the internet’s rich digital capability.
TAN Is Expanding Again To Be The Hub
The exchange point for information to readers and to media who follow TAN, on Africa’s rise in culture, practical business, education, politics and all manner of advancement onto the world stage. These are the new power tools for integration and success which we report on via a network of international contributors, in French and English, through our digital resources and social media channels.”
TAN’s enhanced format is now accessible on all mobile digital platforms and offers unprecedented reach. This supports TAN’s growing role as a portal to markets and media who rely on the flow of information on Africa.
In this 30th year of celebration, all communities are invited to step up to sustain this established voice of unity and progress by participating actively in sponsorships, grant pathways or advertisements.
In addition to its commitment to global growth, TAN is proud to have founded SAGE Foundation locally. Social Acceptance of Great Excellence recognizes and awards youth and individuals who excel in academic, arts, and culture contributions to the community.
