TEAM CANADA MOVIN’ ON UP!
Canada is a perfect 3-0 in the first round of the FIBA World Cup tournament. With victories over France (95-65), Lebanon (128-73) and today over Latvia 101-75, Canada tops Group H and is moving on to the next round.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with a game high 27 points (after scoring only 8 in the 1st half), RJ Barrett added 22, Kelly Olynyk 15 and Nickel Alexander Walker 14.
Canada has consistently had slow starts in the 1st half. Although they have dominated the 2nd half, the slow starts could end up being their downfall. Hopefully Coach Jordi Fernandez will make some adjustments to correct this. Canada is missing NBA Denver all star Jamal Murray who is still recovering from an ACL injury. After playing a hard NBA championship series, he showed up at training camp but after consultation with medical staff decided to pass on the World Cup tournanent. If Canada qualifies for the Olympics he hopes to be able to play and fulfill his dream to play for his country. We hope that becomes a reality.
So Congratulations Team Canada the whole country is in your corner as you head to round two.
