IDLA – the International Driver’s License Application is now approved by Apple and accessible by anyone on the Apple Store. Police, marine and airport officials as well as auto manufacturers have shown great interest in the app developed in Vancouver, Canada.

Why do law enforcement, sea and airport authorities welcome IDLA?

IDLA enables interactions between law enforcement and drivers to be efficient while maintaining a higher level of safety and security when verification of identity is required.

This was the aim of the International Driver’s License Application (IDLA) from its conception. Once downloaded the app allows a police officer to communicate directly with a driver to verify their license, insurance documents and identity while each stays in the safety and comfort of their vehicle or station, by text or voice.

It came about from Honore Gbedze’s direct experience. He sat one night nervously in the driver’s seat, car window lowered, as a police officer approached. A Canadian publisher and entrepreneur, he was headed home from meetings. He knew the request that would come for him to reach for his driver’s license and insurance.

In that interim, he recalled headlines about roadside encounters that had gone wrong. Some had led to unfortunate violence, harm or fatalities. After his experience, he felt compelled to find a way that could increase safety for both citizen drivers and passengers, and our law enforcement officers.

The innovative International Driver’s License Application (IDLA) was the result of that concern.

IDLS offers option to stay in safety of your car

The IDLS app is designed for a quick and secure way to communicate and to confirm identity, license and insurance information.

This is the IDLA process:

  • Drivers and officers register on the app
  • The IDLA software system allows communication between police officers and registered citizen drivers
  • Officers access the driver’s ID from the license plate but can request insurance particulars easily through the app.
  • Drivers can comply without any direct contact or exposures.
  • The officer verifies what they need to know and in most cases permit the driver to go.

The IDLS eliminates or significantly reduces altercations due to misunderstanding, or interactions that escalate to dangerous confrontations.
