Zim Hosting International Film Festival

Zim Hosting International Film Festival

By Wallace Mawire :

Zimbabwe will on September 30 to October 7 host its international film festival in a bid to contribute towards the development of the African film industry, according to Charity Maruta, Director of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF).
According to Maruta, in Zimbabwe like many African countries, the film industry has not received the support that it needs to grow and flourish despite the fact that films have the capacity to provoke thought and debate and enable the citizenry to view their world in new and inspiring ways.
The festival will be held by the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust as a cultural event that uses film to find common ground within different cultures in Zimbabwe and the rest of the continent.
Its other goals are to promote african films, documentaries and filmmakers and to create a platform to have their movies shown in diverse markets across Africa and internationally. It also seeks to develop new audience for African films. Also another mandate is to create positive cultural development.
A film forum will also be held alongside the festival to raise and nurture the level of knowledge and awareness of the film medium in Zimbabwe.
