By Len Chan : The movie “Treacherous Heart” is an intriguing and suspensful story of true love, deceit, and forgiveness.. Directed and produced by Kathryn Fasegha the movie stars local actors Olawumi Adeniyi, Montel Swaray, Kalyn Gilbert, Phillip Eki and Ghazal Alnahhas

The Story is based on Ngozi, a young girl sent to Canada by her parents in Nigeria to live with her mother’s best friend to get a quality education and better opportunities. When she is 26, her parents, following cultural customs and traditions, have arranged a marriage. This decision does not go well.

The lives of four Nigerian Friends are woven together as they struggle to find out who they are in a world of broken promises, childlessness and Inter-Racial relationships. As the story unfolds decades old secrets are revealed. Their faith is tested as they quickly realize that growing up in Canada does not exclude them from being caught up in Nigerian social taboos and religious and cultural differences. Many young people who have grown up in Canada and whose parents follow old traditions can relate to a story such as Treacherous Heart.

Also Starring is Queen Eghujvobo, Emanuel Mensah, Ijeoma Chukwu and Uwabueze Otuka. In an interview, Director Fasegha spoke about providing opportunities for Black actors and actresses enabling them to show their talents on and off the stage, She also said a challenging story works like a charm when the stars are from whatever culture, religion and age is depicted.

A seminar on May 26 will be held to share information on cultural issues that those coming to Canada face and how to best balance their own situation and avoid possible mixed reactions when outside of their home environment. For more information please visit the website
