Scotia bank Toronto Caribbean Carnival is three weeks of Caribbean culture, food, music and arts and craft which attracts thousands of visitors from around the world. This festival is now a major international event and one of the largest in North America, It was launched on July 8 2014 at Nathan Phillip square.

The Main events of this great festival are the Junior Carnival Parade, Kings and Queens of the band competition, Festival Gala, Pan Alive, and the main parade along the Lake Shore Blvd., with colourful costumes and thousands of revelers dancing to steelpan music, soca and chutney music. There is always a wide genre of music to appease everyone. These events are planned months in advance and the costume designers work night and day to complete these intricate costumes ahead of time.

After an array and a kaleidoscope of colours for the Kings and Queens Competition, The beautiful Goddess of Flight, from Carnival Nation, produced by Marcus Eustace, displayed by Joellia Crichton, was announced as the winner. Second place went to Michelle Reyes who portrayed Estatic Euphoria from Louis Saldenah’s Mas K Club, River of Mirrors.

Carol Tannis portrayal of The Enchanted Havana from Marcus Eustace Carnival Nation won the female individual of the year. Second place went to Merlyn Elbourne James from Will Morton’s Fantazia International, portraying Unleash Your Fantasy.

Not to be left unmentioned, the Canada Calypso Monarch competition was won for the sixth time by Macomere Fifi. This event was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre and attracted a large audience. This was not an easy win for Macomere Fifi, as the completion was fiercely contested by nine other calypsonians, singing two songs each. Macomere Fifi also won the People’s Choice.
