Some African countries are participating in these world game events with the Rainbow Nation, South Africa being the biggest delegate of the World Police and Fire Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA.
Athletes from 55 countries are participating in the games which run from July 31st until August 9th. The Games are open to all full-time professional firefighters, law enforcement, customs and correctional officers from around the world.
Over 10,000 athletes are taking part in the competitions and brought to the long weekend in the province record breaking numbers for the tourism industry in this tough economic climate.
The Afro News had a chance to meet and chat with a couple of the participants from the San Jose, California Fire Department, Philippines, Trinidad & Tobago , South Africa, Iceland and New Caledonia Police and Fireman. Some had difficulty speaking English and were very happy to connect with The Afro News Reporter who could speak French.
Most participants are happy about the event and the life time chance to see and experience our full richness of diversity and multi cultures that is unique in the world and to also be in Vancouver a few months ahead of the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
