The effort to equip, energize and activate the Black community for greater participation in our national debate, whilst building capacity to meet the community’s challenges, is at the core of our mandate. A necessary step in this process is to increase cultural awareness, inclusion and to provide opportunities for participation and community support from Leadership.

“In the House of Commons in 2008, when Black History Month was unanimously declared, Senator Donald Oliver asked that “the Senate take note of the important contribution of Black Canadians to the settlement, growth and development of Canada, the diversity of the Black community in Canada and its importance to the history of this country”. From the transatlantic settlement, to the abolition of slavery, to the founding of our country and two world wars, Black peoples have been a significant part of our Canadian history and heritage.
The National BHM Expo will pay tribute to the legacies and accomplishments of Black Canadians with a view to contribute to positive impacts on the lives of community members and to encourage Black youth to realize their full potential.
Through The National Black History Month Expo The Ecumenical Council and Community Foundation (ECCF) aims to engender an inclusive, vibrant and engaging Black community that is geared to more actively participate in solving the challenges faced as a community.
