Friday nights screening of Duane Adler’s latest feature film, ‘Heartbeats’ is Hollywood meet Bollywood.

Confession …when you combined a love story and dance in film making, I turn back into a twelve year old wanting to be that girl on the screen…I just can’t help myself.

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Maeve O’Brien and Paul McGillion (Frontier, The Flash) two of Vancouver’s very own! Heartbeats, is the first film O’Brien has ever been cast in and she was a scene-stealer. This young lady has charisma oozing from her and you can’t help but smile every time she is on screen. O’Brien played the younger sister, Morgan, to Kelli Andrews played by Krystal Ellsworth (La La Land, Iron Man 2). Cleverly done, O’Brien, acts as a hand of guidance through her sisters struggle to find herself all the while offering the audience a laugh and moments of release to the heavy burden that Ellsworth’s character is going through. Coincidentally, Paul McGillion, playing the role of Ellsworth’s father, also seems to be experiencing that same burden.  McGillion’s years of on screen experience was clear as he attacked a wide range of emotions throughout the film once again proving just how versatile an actor he is.

Acting opposite to Ellsworth was the very handsome Amitash Pradhan (Velaiilla Pattadhari, Bruce Lee: The Fighter). He is the Yin to her Yang in character story but together the synchronicity of falling in love and the rediscovering of who they are through the love of dance, is beautiful to watch as it unfolds just as it should.

Whether you are a dancer or not doesn’t matter, ‘Heartbeats’, at its’ core is about a girl, who’s trying to find herself in the world while facing the pressures of her parents, what direction to take in her life or to follow her own ‘Heartbeat’.

‘Heartbeats’ is playing at select theatres throughout this month.  Go and Enjoy!
