The goal of the Healthy Mums project is to keep mothers healthy so they can give birth naturally to a full term, healthy baby. It now operates in two health centres. Pregnant women are seen by the nurse and then matched up with a volunteer from the Mothers’ Union, who makes regular home visits during the pregnancy.

Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development was announced in Washington DC, United States, by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the government of Norway, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada and the World Bank.
