Rustin was a lead architect of the civil rights movement. He devoted his life to correcting social and economic oppression and to creating a better foundation for all people to thrive. Rustin was a mentor and advisor to Martin Luther King Jr. Both King’s and Rustin’s early training for national speeches and civil rights demonstrations began in Chicago.
