Basketball:  Congratulations to Raptors’ Centre Jamaal Magloire who was recently named one of the BBPA’s  2012 Distinguished Men of Honour.

Canadians participating in the NCAA’s March Madness tournament include:

Andrew Nicholson of Mississauga – St. Bonaventure (N.Y.). Nicholson is a 6’9” Power Forward who was the Atlantic 10 Player of the week four straight times.  Teammte Matthew Wright of Toronto is also on the team.

Myck Kabongo, Toronto plays for Texan Longhorns

Kevin Pangos (Newmarket) plays for Gonzaga

Junior Cadougan , Toronto, Marquette

Hernst Laroche, Montreal, Daniel Mullings and Renaldo Dixon, Toronto and Tyrone Watson of Hamilton all play for New Mexico State.

The inaugural year of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) by all counts has been successful.  Playing in small cities in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and in small arenas, the teams have drawn fans to prove that basketball is viable in Canada.  Compared to the NBA Development League, the NBLC can provide a step up in the direction of either the NBA or a league overseas.  The League is now in the playoff series with the London Lightning winning home court advantage.
