Dear Readers and Community Members,
Dreams I have for this community and the values that will make them come true have come together in a new not for profit foundation. Established in 2007 it is now ready to being its public tour of duty. The SAGE Foundation’s guiding principle is the recognition of excellence in the multi cultural nature of our society. We hope to serve as a voice for and to support the building of a better community through the recognition of excellence in Community Service, Leadership, Education and Multiculturalism. My dream in founding SAGE is to encourage and then recognize accomplishments inspired by personal and community success. I hope to stimulate thinking and action that is not dependant and waiting for some one or some event. We hope to encourage individuals and groups to take action and show initiative. I am joined by a Board of Directors that has contributed their time and talent generously. I welcome the efforts of: Troy Peart, Co-Chair, Ndonodji Djerambete, Director Lazare Adele, Treasurer, Sophia Barton-Bucknor, Secretary.

SAGE Foundation’s mission:

  • To offer mentorship and financial support, including scholarships to elementary, secondary and post-secondary recipients in BC
  • To award scholarships for demonstrated excellence in Community Service, Leadership or Multiculturalism
  • To organize an annual event to award prizes and promote the work of outstanding students
  • To unite and inspire students from all backgrounds to work together to enhance the leadership capabilities of all and to promote multicultural values and success in BC

We recognize that the cultural and social landscape of BC is very diverse. The foundation will strive to herald successes on this landscape. We believe that talents and achievements MUST be recognized, publicly. All people will be inspired to continue to excel if they are supported. We hope to create a common good through motivation, inspiration and unity.

In November 2009 Sage Foundation’s first Annual Award Event will be held. Scholarships are designed to help people build our community and make progress possible.

You can help. Our work has just started. We need your input. If you have ideas, event organization expertise or interest in contributing, please contact us. Preparing to find and honour good people doing extraordinary things in our community will call on many kinds of people and energies.

Together, we can achieve all goals and build a better future for generations to come.

About the author: Chef Mawunyo Komla (Honore ) Gbedze grew to love the fresh, seasonal foods available in Atigbe Abayeme, his beloved village in the province of Agou. Growing up in an extended, three generation family with parents who were educators and garden market entrepreneurs, he learned early on the value of fresh, nutritious and visually tantalizing foods to feed a busy and growing family. His culinary adventures expanded with work at Togo’s top Hotels and Resorts where he achieved professional chef certification. Chef Honore now fuses his African, French and Canadian tastes and 20 years of experiences in his culinary creations.
