Hollywood Profile
By Robert Waldman : Going from music to the big screen can be hard to accomplish successfully. Lucky singer Romany Malco has made the transition flawlessly. Even from a very youthful age this man has had a flair for the dramatic and today is reaping rewards.
Like so many other Americans this man hails from the West Indies – Trinidad to be exact.
While his family hails from warmer climes Romany was actually born in good old Brooklyn New York, way back on November 18, 1968. You could say he inherited that travelling flair from momma and papa as he made the move to Texas while a teen and then to sunny California.
Oh along the way he managed to master a few artistic traits.
Talent came easy for this self-made man as a child he began performing in front of audiences. Rapping was the key to his success along with an outgoing personality. Career wise Malco first formed a group called RMG before changing its name to the prestigious hit making rap group College Boyz and blasted its way to number one on the hotly contested rap charts. Impressed by the singers’ talents major label Virgin Records quickly signed them up. And the rest, as they say, is history. From there it was on to doing musical work on movies.
Malco’s big break came while working for John Leguizamo as a producer of The Pest. Urged on by the actor the musician turned to acting and has not looked back since. Comedy heavyweight Judd Apatow wisely cast him in the hit making The 40 Year Old Virgin, the film that turned a largely unknown Steve Carrell into a superstar. Not wanting to take success lying down, Malco has been able to parlay the acclamation he received to more film work. Right now he can be seen as one of the principles in the hit Think Like a Man.
Odds are good that the hard work ethic of this man along with natural talent should further Romany Malco’s rise to the top of the entertainment world.
