It’s time to Repair the American Fabric—and It Starts by Restoring Our Police
Following the 20th anniversary of 9/11, national security in the United States is more precarious than ever. Adding to this fact is the Taliban’s recent takeover of Afghanistan and its new $83 billion weapons cache—serious political miscalculations and policy errors put the risk of another terror attack on our soil very high.
Every one of these miscalculations was preventable, but it is the politicization of everything that makes America seem weak under the Biden administration. A feeble president, unconstitutional mandates, and irresponsible decision-making have put America’s traditions of liberty and freedom at risk. This fact alone emboldens our adversaries and discourages our citizenry.
President Biden’s attempt to sound strong by using tough language has no meaning. America’s enemies are mobilizing. We see the world’s bad actors amassing goodwill among rogue nations starting with the recognition of the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan by Russia, China, Iran and others. America’s weak policies and anemic response to the haphazard withdrawal in Afghanistan did not just make our enemies stronger, but it made our alliances weaker. The message sent by America’s leaders from the military and administration are that neither our friends and allies – or citizens, are valued.
Since President Biden was sworn into office chaos as reined, not only with the Afghanistan debacle, but leaving Americans behind in Afghanistan—with the President himself proclaiming that getting out ninety percent was good enough. This administration is leaving Americans behind in our own country as well with the massive deficit spending that is not just bankrupting us now but leaving a mess for future generations to clean up, if they can.
As a military veteran and first-responder—both firefighter and law enforcement, I see a strategic and calculated plan to destroy our Nations thin blue and red line between those sworn to protect and serve and a radical element propped up to destroy our citizens and demoralize our people. Law enforcement is not the enemy to our people. The real enemy is Democrat run cities who allow rampant crime, encourage divisiveness, accept a socialistic worldview, and remove parameters for public safety and common-sense governance.
The façade portrayed by Democrat mayors and city councils creates a public perception that police are racist, while thugs and lawbreakers are okay, just look at Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s disastrous policy of ignoring Chicago’s record crime and violence. Under-funding law enforcement directly impacts their ability to even protect themselves by having money available to purchase active shooter bulletproof vests. Additionally, the demoralizing effect that the defunding has on officers comes full circle as these same civic leaders’ institute new policies and procedures that further hamstrings law enforcement officers to appropriately protect and serve the community.
Police officers now have a target on their back between anti-police attacks and the inherent risks that come with being in law enforcement. The last straw now comes through forced vaccine mandates. Thankfully, police unions like Los Angeles, are fighting back against this. When our police are battered to a point where they cannot even fight back for themselves, who is going to stand up and protect our citizens?
Following the 9/11 anniversary this year, I am re-energized remembering my service and work at Ground Zero in the days following the worst terrorist attack on American soil. I saw the best in people at a time when our nation was hurting and demoralized. The national response of citizens following this tragedy reminds me of how tight the fabric of our nation can be. I believe that we can get back to those days again, but it must be a concerted effort to repair our communities and the ties that make us the strongest and most successful nation in the history of the world.
Our national fabric has been torn by the pandemic and simultaneous attacks against the rule of law and citizens by elected officials. It is now time to come together to repair those wounds and it starts with making amends with law enforcement and first responders’ writ large.
There are a couple key things that citizens together with their communities can do right now. Defeat mandates of any kind. Re-fund law enforcement immediately. Allow businesses to open and flourish. Stop the negativity and finger-pointing. We must stand united against any forces that attempt to remove our civil liberties and basic professional dignity. We must reject anyone and any force purposefully dividing and corrupting citizens individual ability to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness-guarantees by the way thanks to our Constitution.
This is America’s turning point. It is time to appreciate our heroes and allow a new generation of them to rise. We can be united in our response to resist tyranny of any kind, while championing the values that have made our communities and nation great—and it starts by supporting the rule of law and first-responders in our communities.
