The Louise Simone Bennett-Coverley Estate through trustee Fabian Coverley and Pamela Appelt. have donated the Miss Lou Archives to McMaster University,  Bennett-Coverley known world wide as “Miss Lou” was born in Kingston, Jamaica.  She was a folklorist, writer and educator who traveled the world promoting Jamaican culture through lectures and performances.  The archives date from the latter part of her life.  She died in 2006 in Toronto.

McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and the Jamaican community has always had a strong relationship said Dr. Patrick Deane, President.  He said receiving Miss Lou’s archives was a proud moment and that they take very seriously the responsibility of caring for them.  “We feel that we have been entrusted with a very important piece of Jamaican heritage” he said.   Dr. Deane said the university has several projects in the development stages that they hope will grow its relationships with Jamaican organizations and academic institutions.
