The city was swept up in Juno Fever for the 2009 JUNO awards (March 26-29) with a long list of parties, events, and performances in and around the city, fans of Canadian music were more than ecstatic to finally see the Juno’s back in Vancouver after eleven years.
The weekend proved entertaining to all who wanted to be a part of the musical madness. Juno Cup on Friday night saw some NHL greats such as, Dave Babych, Gino Odjick and Lanny McDonald versus Juno Legends, Kathleen Edwards, Sarah McLachlan and Tyler Stewart (Barenaked Ladies), to name a few.
The Juno Fest parties, which saw over 100 bands perform at 19 venues was one of the best addition to the weekend, also giving fans of good music a chance to enjoy their favourite artists in a more intimate setting. For those that prefer the meet and greet approach to the Juno’s, the street fest on Granville Street, gave people the chance to hear already popular and up and coming artists in a fun-filled environment, the street festival concerts usually began around noon and continued on until approximately midnight. The Gala dinner and the broadcast day event were sensational, with a crowd of thousands crowded to catch a glimpse or get an autograph from all-star attendees like Michael Buble, Kathleen Edwards, Feist, Deborah Cox, Sam Roberts, City and Colour and K.D. Lang, to list a few. The weekend ended in style with a special Songwriters’ Circle concert and the official Russell Peters afterparty at Gossip nightclub, which provided a night of hilarity for all those that lined up to see Canada’s funniest man.
