Dear Supporters and Valued Readers of The Afro News:
It is with deep gratitude and appreciation that I write to thank you for your connection to The Afro News over the past years and to update you on our community news press which has allowed you to share your voice with our shared citizens and readers.
This year The Afro News (TAN) is celebrating 30 years of providing media service as a rallying point and proof of positive integration of our democratic society and values and those of the dreams and contributions of current and new Canadians. All this reported on and reinforced in a free publication, distributed in the Lower Mainland and well beyond Canada’s borders.
We have served a multi ethnic community consistently and in 2011 awarded with the British Columbia Nesika Business Award for our work and service in the diversity of ethnic media. TAN is the only press on Canada’s west coast that operates without any support from government, private or corporate funding outside of advertisers.
Eight years ago, as a young immigrant, I acquired the publication rights and management of The Afro News press. My vision was to continue our service to the community.
The opportunity to bring the people who drive our progress – be they the business people or community volunteers we profile or the voice we have given to individuals, like you, who help to advance the opportunities for us all.
I understood there was a need to adapt to the 21st century reality and TAN advancements have included going global using online and social media channels. TAN proudly supports its SAGE Foundation (Social Acceptance of Great Excellence) whereby youth and individuals who excel in academic, arts and culture and community are awarded and celebrated. We are active participants in initiatives to improve and evolve as a true voice of unity to our multi ethnic community. Our evolving journey has been a great experience.
You are invited to join our 30th year in celebration of our community service by sponsorship, grant pathways or advertisement. Your support will help us maintain our joint voice.
We hope you will join us – our voice and your voice through The Afro sponsorship, grant pathways or advertisement to our community, a great cultural, practical and political power tool for our integration.
You have my pledge that I want to work and continue with The Afro News and to serve as a source of information, news and bridge between communities in the service of cultural and economic support through continued communications via our hand help paper and our online presence.
Sincerely
Honore Gbedze
