The 2018/2019 NBA season officially came to an end on Monday night with the NBA Awards show. Hosted by Shaq, who did a great job, the show provided entertainment along with some emotional moments.
Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam added another award to go along with his NBA Championship ring when he was named Most Improved Player. During his emotional remarks he paid tribute to his Mom who was in the audience and encouraged all young people to work hard to achieve their dreams. He also gave a big shout out to his teammates, coaches and the Raptors organization.
Other Awards:
• Milwaukee’s Gianni’s Antetokounmpo was named league MVP. His acceptance remarks were humble and emotional as well as he thanked his family for their support.
• Los Angeles Clippers’ Lou Williams won Sixth Man of the Year.
• Rookie of the Year went to Luka Donic of the Dallas Mavericks
• Coach of the Year was Mike Budenholzer of the Milwaukee Bucks.
• Mike Conley formerly of Memphis now with Utah won the Sportsmanship Award as well as Teammate of the Year.
• Utah’s Centre Rudy Gobert won Defensive Player of the Year
• NBA Cares Community Assist Award went to Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal.
• Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson
• The Sagar Stong Award was given to broadcaster Robin Roberts who fought back from two bouts of cancer
• Boston’s Marcus Smart won the Hustle Award
• Moment of the Year was the 50 points Derrick Rose of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored against the Utah Jazz
• Executive if the Year was Jon Horst of the Milwaukee Bucks
A great NBA season has ended and on June 30th at 6pm another season gets ready with the advent of Free Agency.
An interesting new season is on the horizon.
