Discover your future in the world of Sciences

VANCOUVER, British Columbia –The Education & Career Fairs is proud to support the Year of Science in B.C., a province wide program to help raise awareness among British Columbians of the importance of science to our health, well-being and economic future.

The Vancouver Education & Career Fair is a one-day event being held at the Forum at the Pacific National Exhibition on Monday, January 10, 2011. Over 5,000 students, teachers and counselors from Lower Mainland secondary schools, as well as parents, job seekers, career changers and adult learners are expected to attend. The Fair will allow attendees the opportunity to interact with over 100 exhibitors who are representing a wide range of careers, employment, government agencies, professional associations, trades training and higher education options from Canada, USA and around the world. The mission of the Education & Career Fairs is to assist their attendees – who are primarily youth – in the transition to a career by providing them the opportunity to discover and examine different career and education paths and obtain labour market information.

“One of the goals of the Year of Science is to encourage our young people to discover that science is fun and to get them excited about taking math and science,” said Ida Chong, Minister of Science and Universities. “The Education and Career Fair is an excellent opportunity for young people to discover that an education in science can also lead to a wide variety of exciting and rewarding careers.”

It is this commonality that makes the Fairs a perfect match to support the Year of Science. Science World is dedicated to promoting science to the province’s youth and has recognized the fit of the Education & Career Fairs as the ideal setting to get their message out to the youth of British Columbia. Science World will be exhibiting at the Vancouver Island, Fraser Valley, Vancouver and Kamloops Education & Career Fairs to complement their schedule of Community Science Celebration events.

At Science World’s booths at the Fairs, attendees will be able to play fun and interactive careers games to learn about various careers related to science, engineering, math and technology. “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Education & Career Fairs,” says Bryan Tisdall, President and CEO of Science World British Columbia. “Thanks to funding from the Year of Science, we’re able to work with such community partners to provide dynamic experiences that make potential careers in science fun and relevant to children, teens and parents.”
