By michelle-lee : Leaders from the 14 Caricom nations voted unanimously to seek compensation from three European countries – Britain, France and The Netherlands – for what is described as the ongoing legacy of the Slave Trade. The Caricom meeting took place in Trinidad in July. A formal apology is also requested and if it is received it would be considered as only the first step. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadines said “the apology is important but that is wholly insufficient. We have to have appropriate recompense”.
