February 26 2016 Canada Citizenship Ceremony Vancouver
Guest Speaker Honore Gbedze Publisher of The Afro News
Bonjour Madames et Monsiours, Jeune Filles et Jeune Garçons, Cher compatriote Citoyens et Citoyennes
C’est avec une grande honour et privilège que je vous adresse ce matin tout en vous congratulate de votre citoyenneté.
Today we are celebrating you and your choice to choose Canada as your new country. By taking the oath today you will become part of the fabric of this great Nation – the true jewel of the North!
Never before in the history of humanity and time are we in need to foster harmony, dialogue in living and in lasting peace.
May you new Citizens represent yourself in this great Nation positively in your personality, your Community, your Province, Nationally and Globally.
Our good example to the world is that Canada is the country where every human race lives in peace and harmony and positively participates in its democracy.
I arrived in Vancouver, 16 years ago; humbly from my birth country of Togo which is on the West Coast of Africa. Not knowing anybody here it was a struggle at first – I experienced many things socially, economically and emotionally but through perseverance, hard work, participation and inclusion I have the honour of standing here and addressing all of you today.
Make the best use of your citizenship – When you can’t find work or just bored and looking for some fun – volunteer your time and expertise – reach out to others and make a difference and learn and grow in the process. You are the cornerstone of Canada’s further and future successes!
In the month of February as a nation we are celebrating Black History Month – on behalf of all of us of African Descent and the citizens that are gathered here we congratulate and applaud you delightfully for making Canada your new home.
May you continue to build on the legacy positively of this Great Nation Canada now and forever .
Vive le Canada .
Thank you / Une fois encore Merci
