On Saturday March 7 at 9:00am, Coastal Sound Music Academy presented the Water’s Edge Music Festival. This event consisted of around the clock music during a 25 hour convergence of contemporary music set on the shores of Lafarge Lake and at the Evergreen Culture Centre in Coquitlam, BC. This music extravaganza featured something for everyone, from jazz quartets and Cuban musical stars to a rare performance at water’s edge of R. Murray Schafer’s legendary Music for Wilderness Lake.

Cuban Legend and Jazz Guru, Bobby Carcasses was one of the festival’s featured highlights. Joining Bobby on stage were fellow Cuban musicians, Jorge Campos on acoustic piano and Michel Alvarez, saxophone; the Vancouver-based salsa sensation Marlin Ramazzini, percussion with husband Fito Garcia on bass – both are from Guatemala City, but studied Escuela de Superacione Profecional in Havana. Also two budding local musicians that will truly bridge the mentor program were also an integral part of the band – Grade 11, Killarney High School student, Kai Basanta played the drums and trumpet player, Cameron Milligan, a first year music student at Capilano University, North Vancouver.
