February is Black History Month in Canada; It is a time when Canadians can reflect upon and remember the history of our nation, its successes and failings and to encourage each other to do better in areas where we have failed in the past.
It is a time to share Afro Canadian culture and history with the rest of Canada and to celebrate how far we have come as a Nation (says Kingsley Cato founder of the Expo), Black history month is really a time to celebrate Canadian history and culture and to recognized our diversity and strength as a country.
The event will take place on February 26th (6:30-9pm) and will be a stripped down event this year (the event is normally 1-2 days long) due to Covid-19 restrictions and will be featuring musical talents including international Reggae superstar Hoszia Hinds and Nigerian gospel singer Minstrel OSAS amongst a star studded group of performers who will be performing through an interactive live stream (for more info visit bhmexpo.com).
Black history month in Canada was officially recognized by the house of Commons in 1995 and was officially recognized by the Senate and approved in 2008.
