On March 27th Angela Davis delivered the inaugural speech for the new Centre For Scholarship In The Public Interest, at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She spoke on the legacy of the abolition of slavery in the 21st Century.
A film on her life “Free Angela and All Political Prisoners” premiered at the recent TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) in Toronto and openrf in Europe and the U.S. in March. Born in Birmingham Alabama 69 years ago, she was recently honored by the State for her lifelong commitment and contribution to social justice. An honor she said surprised her and would have been unimaginable 40 years ago.
Davis is a distinguished professor emeritus, writer, lecturer and world traveler. She continues her advocacy for the rights of prisoners, women and the poor.
