Seventeen Year-Old Author Publishes Sci-Fi Adventure Novel and Launches Non-Profit to Help ‘Unleash Potential of Youths’

AEGIS RISING by S.S.Segran

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

British Columbia-based teen author S.S.Segran will be launching her debut novel AEGIS RISING on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Old Mill Boathouse in Port Moody. The science-fiction story which chronicles the journey of five teenage protagonists who are cast into a life-altering adventure in northern Canada has won rave reviews from advance readers across the globe. The author will also be launching ‘Aegis League’, a non-profit she has set up to provide resources to help youths explore their potential.

Port Moody, British Columbia – November 08, 2013 – Three years in the making, AEGIS RISING will be launched in an event to be graced by Port Moody Mayor, the Honorable Mr. Mike Clay. Also in attendance are the Honorary Consul for Barbados in BC, Mrs. Marilyn Moseley, and the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in BC, Mrs. Wilma Bennett-King. The event will start at 3.00 pm and the program includes the premier screening of the Aegis Rising video trailer, speeches by Mrs. Moseley and Mayor Clay who will then officially launch the book and the non-profit, Aegis League.

The four-hundred and fifty page novel is the culmination of an idea from the author as a grade seven student at the Moody Middle school. When asked, how it all got started, she replied, “I’ve been a keen reader from a young age. However I definitely did not think I’d actually write a novel. I guess the first telltale sign was when I was seven or eight and I would try to write extensions to the final chapters of books that I’d read because I didn’t want them to end. Then when I was about twelve or thirteen, I came up with an idea for a story where five friends get washed up on the shore of an island after a freak storm separates them from their families while on a boating trip.

There were talking animals in it. It didn’t get very far! But it established a sort of groundwork for what evolved to become Aegis Rising. The talking animals didn’t make it out of that island, but I did find a way to bring some really cool creatures into this novel.” About the Author. An avid reader since early childhood, S.S.Segran had written several short stories before embarking on her first full-length novel ‘AEGIS RISING’ at the age of fifteen.

In crafting the premise for the book, she drew from the captivating imagery of the Pacific Northwest and the intriguing wonders of nature and the human spirit. S.S.Segran is a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. She enjoys drawing and horseback riding. She is an ardent fan of parkour and free running. S.S.Segran is also the founder of Aegis League, a non-profit organization whose goal is to support youths living in places and conditions that deny them opportunities to grow. The mission of the organization is to provide resources that help these youths explore their potential. This includes life-skills training and micro-loan funding to help them launch small businesses in the communities where they reside.
